I got back from Oshkosh, sat down and started pouring through 30 pounds of reading material gathered and ran across your CG-4A article in the GA News publication. As an associate member of the WW2GPA, (my father was an instructor in the CG-4A)I was very excited to see it. Last night I was rereading the Spring Silent Wings Newsletter and saw that John P. had recently visited the Museum in Lubbock. All of this is a little two coincidental. With the Annual Convention coming up in September, and the numbers of current members dwindling by attrition, I appreciate the interest in this history and the veterans that made it happen. Good work to everyone. I would very much like to get my father and myself to Dayton this year, if his health permits it. |

We are members of the Whiteman Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization restoring a CG-4A Glider. This is being accomplished at the only "active" military base at which Glider Pilots were trained -- Whiteman Air Force Base in Sedalia, Mo., formerly known as the Sedalia Air Base. We understand Mr. John Pappas visited recently and told of his project to fly a WACO CG-4A from England to Normandy for the 65th Anniversary of D-Day in 2009. What a delightful endeavor to pursue and we hope it will be with our glider. We are anxious to see the completion of this "DreamFlight" and wish you all the very best. |

Words cannot express the excitement and delight I experienced when I learned of your Dream Flight plans to put a CG-4A glider into flying condition and fly it from England to Normany to land in one of the WW2 D- Day landing zones . How I have longed to see one of those fine old birds fly once again . I participated as a glider pilot in the Overlord , Market - Garden and Varsity , D- Day , Holland , and the Rhine Crossing at Wessel , Germany in WW 2, respectively . Gale A. |

Dear John & Betty,
It was a honour and a pleasure to meet you, in such special circumstances. Flying Rose is certainly something I'll never forget.
I truly hope our contact remains alive, and we can keep Rose flying here in Sao Carlos, Brazil.
Whenever I plan to go to the US, I'll do my best to visit you.
Warm regards,
Daniel |
